Who has the highest job satisfaction in America? The answers may surprise you.

Nurse Anesthesiologists top the list with a record 94.7% satisfaction rate. They administer anesthesia during medical procedures, check vital signs, and may assist the physician during medical procedures. The average yearly income for a nurse anesthesiologist is about $150,000 a year.

Anesthesiologists’ job satisfaction is 88% overall. Their job is to administer anesthetics during medical procedures. With a yearly salary of nearly $300,000 and an increasing need for more medical practitioners, you can bet that anesthesiologists will continue to be satisfied with their jobs for years to come.

Training and Development Managers are the people who are paid to keep us motivated on our jobs and in our lives. They give workshops and training seminars to improve our lives. They have an 84% job satisfaction rate and earn an average of $79,000 a year.

Education/Training Consultants have an 80% satisfaction rate. They are responsible for training employers, as well as developing the training materials to do so. They have a median salary of $77,000 per year.

Creative Directors earn an average of $86,900 a year and 79% are satisfied with their work. They’re the creative forces in producing artwork, layout, and copy. They can also oversee advertisement projects in print, radio, and television.

Nurse Practitioners perform many of the same duties as physicians and may also prescribe medications. They earn a median salary of $85,200 a year, and 79% report that they are happy with their jobs.

Clergy/Priests, surprisingly, do not have a higher-than-average job satisfaction rate. About 67% report that they are happy with their work. Wages can vary among clergy and priests, but the average salary ranges between $18,000 – $32,000 annually, not including job-related benefits.

Firefighters are involved in hazardous work environments and may work long, irregular hours. They earn between $31,180 and $58,440 on average, and 57% report that they’re happy at work.

Teachers can work in private or public schools and must have, at least, a bachelor’s degree. They earn an average of $33,227 yearly, and only 48% report job satisfaction.

Lawyers are considered the backbone of the legal system. They report only a 43% job satisfaction rate. They may be self-employed, work in a law firm, or work as a public defender. The median annual earnings for lawyers is $110,590.

Social Workers are at the lower end of the job satisfaction spectrum with a reported 39% satisfaction rate. Social workers must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree and work to help people improve the quality of their lives. The average earnings are between $31,040 and $52,080, depending on the area of specialization.

Postal Workers may work on foot to deliver the mail, in Post Office service centers, or sort mail for delivery. Only 35% report job satisfaction with a median annual salary of $49,800.

Waiters are near the bottom of job satisfaction, with only 20% reporting that they are happy at work. Since wages and tips for waiters vary, it’s difficult to report a median yearly salary. The median hourly salary, however, including tips is $8.01.

Amusement Park Attendants report only a 16% job satisfaction rate. Much of the work is seasonal, and wages vary depending on the park. The median average wage overall is $8.40 for all industries.

Gas Station Attendants are at the bottom of the list with only 13% reporting job satisfaction. They may pump gas, check fluid levels in vehicles, and take cash payments. Their annual median wages are about $18,950 annually.

For the most part, it seems that high salaries go hand in hand with happiness on the job.
